Jamie Oliver restaurant to create 100 jobs

Around 100 restaurant jobs could be created by TV chef Jamie Oliver's new restaurant in York, which is set to open in July of this year next to the city's Guildhall building.

The Jamie's Italian branch will be spread out over two floors in an unused part of the building that houses the Lendal Cellars pub, which will continue trading, according to the York Press.

Chefs and front-of-house staff will all be considered for positions in the new eatery, which will join new outlets opening in St Albans and Manchester throughout 2012 as the brand expands across the UK.

"We're in a fantastic location and it's really going to be a wonderful place to eat, one of the jewels of the Jamie's Italian collection," said Oliver.

York restaurateur Michael Hjort, who is secretary of York Hospitality Association and who organises the annual York Food and Drink Festival, said he expects the eatery will provide further competition in a city which already enjoys an impressive selection of restaurants.
