Authorities in Wales have given the go-ahead for a new marina development which is set to create hundreds of local jobs, it has been reported.

Two property developers, Conygar Investment Company and Vinci Project Development, intend to spend £100 million on building Martello Quays at Pembroke Dock.

As well as a marina and housing, the site will also offer a hotel with at least 120 bedrooms, the Western Mail reports.

Further hospitality jobs are likely to be created as a casino, pubs and restaurants are also going to be built.

John Davies, the leader of Pembrokeshire Council, commented: "It's extremely good news for Pembrokeshire and Pembroke Dock."

"[It] will bring a great lift to the economy and well being of Pembroke Dock," he said, adding that the development marked the "beginning of exciting times".

The facilities at Martello Quays are likely to attract even more people to Pembroke Dock, which is already popular with walkers who wish to explore the pretty coastline and military history buffs keen to explore the area' wartime past.

Mr Davies told the paper he expected that other regeneration projects would also be initiated, adding: "This is just the tip of the iceberg."
