A new leisure development in York is due to be completed by late summer, it has been revealed.
Absolute Leisure has had plans to revamp the city's Barbican centre for some years but had to first obtain the necessary permissions from the council before it could redevelop the site.
After the firm was given the go ahead to proceed, construction was delayed a number of times but now Tony Knox, the head of the company, has told the York Press that work on the refurbishment of the 1980s building is now underway.
Among the new facilities due to be unveiled when the centre is opened are an array of new bars and restaurants, which will provide new opportunities for people interested in local jobs in the hospitality sector.
Mr Knox told the newspaper: "Absolute Leisure is working flat out with all the various contractors and sub-contractors to make sure that the Barbican will be a great showcase for York.
"Everything will be open together, for events, bars and restaurants, by late summer."
