A Cardiff hotel which was severely damaged in a fire has been given a revamp and will re-open to guests in May, according to the Western Mail.

The newspaper reports that Thistle has opted to rename the historic Park Thistle Hotel after transforming it into a modern four-star property, with the new venue to be known as The Parc by Thistle.

An estimated 120 hotel jobs are set to be created at the 138 bedroom property, with opportunities for bar and restaurant work available as the chain opens a sleek champagne bar and dining venue.

Thistle's area general manager Darren Patt said that the market in Cardiff "has the capacity for another four star hotel".

He added: "Outside of London, Cardiff has the highest rooms growth in the UK and we believe The Parc will represent itself as one of the best hotels in the city."

In March last year, figures produced by hotel consultancy services firm PKF described Cardiff has having seen "the most spectacular growth", with average room occupancy increasing by five per cent to 75.2 per cent in just a year.
