The award for the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Bar Personality of the Year Award has gone to a Falkirk resident, Debora Hamilton, who works in Polmont at the Millfield pub, reported the Publican.

Known as one of the most prestigious awards in Scotland's licensed pub industry, the assessment process sees applicants judged on training, product knowledge and good customer service, among other key skills.

Ms Hamilton was one of six finalists vying for the title this year, from an initial 50 applicants, the biggest number for the award so far.

"Great people are one of the factors which make great pubs," said the award's sponsor. "Debora's … love of her job really shone through during the assessments."

The BII, the professional body responsible for all areas of the licensed retail sector, runs competitions every year to reward excellence demonstrated by training programmes, management and staff.

In addition, the organisation has its own awarding body, BIIAB, through which it is the main provider of qualifications in the licensed retailing industry.
