Local pubs are being encouraged by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) to enter the category for Best Pub at the East Midlands Enjoy England Excellence Awards 2008.

The entry deadline is June 27th 2008, with winners set to be announced in October.

Among other key themes, the award, which is now in its fifth year, judges quality of customer services, staff induction and training programmes, and environmental awareness.

Richard Matthews, regional secretary for the BBPA, the award sponsor, told the Publican: "The judges will be taking into account applicants' commitment to excellence."

According to East Midlands Tourism, winning the award promises not only recognition for fantastic achievement, but also scope for marketing opportunities and "valuable media exposure".

Pubs across Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland are all invited to apply.

The award is focused mainly on visitors coming into the region and endorses institutions across 17 different categories, which include Best Hotel and Outstanding Customer Service.
