Pubs new and existing are planning to incorporate bedrooms into their establishments in reaction to the effects of the nationwide smoking ban and tightened consumer spending, a source has claimed, suggesting more hospitality jobs.
With the major focus on enhancing revenue, one of the UK's leading pub retailers enforcing the idea is Marston's, which last week announced it would be investing £50 million into expanding accommodation in its branches, according to Caterer and Hotelkeeper.
In the effort to encourage the idea of an inn being a "female-friendly" enterprise, David Catling, co-founder of Urban Inns, told the news provider: "We are trying something that is light, airy and open, with a pub that does good wines and good food."
Urban Inns, a new organisation dedicated to "modernising the traditional British inn experience" - as reports the Morning Advertiser - has also vowed to increase its number of inns from two to twenty in five years.
According to the publication, the first two new sites that Urban Inns will together offer 20 bedrooms, priced at an average of £89 each.
