It has been announced refurbishment work of the former George Hotel in Whittlesey is to commence in September, with around 45 employment positions in the offing.

The upgrade of the 18th century building by the hotel chain, making it the third branch in the Peterborough area, will generate a "welcoming" place for families, according to the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

It will also incorporate a beer garden.

The publication was told by a spokesman the expected opening should be in February next year, when the new hospitality staff will be needed.

Coming on board with the pub chain is architect TFT Consultants, which has collaborated with JD Wetherspoon's projects for 18 years, the report says.

The Wetherspoon spokesman told the newspaper: "The Whittlesey site is in a great location and it's a good looking building."

Wetherspoon claims to take great pride in its staff training and development to enhance the overall customer service experience in its pubs.
