The owners of the historic Pelican Inn pub in Tacolneston near Wymondham were celebrating recently after being named community pub of the year by South Norfolk Council.
Hospitality jobs prospects could be boosted by the news that the inn beat off competition from dozens of rivals to scoop the prize for being a thriving hub of the local community, reports the Norwich Evening News.
The establishment has been run by the Maginn family for the past ten years and pub manager Esther Maginn, a former art teacher, said she was delighted to have won the award.
A bed and breakfast hotel is also located in the Pelican Inn and the pub runs many promotions that pull in the punters such as quiz nights, wine tasting evenings and themed food nights.
Plans for a new upmarket bar called Nouveau were recently given the go-ahead in Birmingham, which will see local jobs being created when it opens in the New Year.
