The advertising may help make room for hospitality jobs in pubs

Carling to promote local pubs at football stadiums

Beer brand Carling is to donate £10,000 worth of free advertising space to local pubs this week in a bid to attract trade, which could in turn boost hospitality recruitment.

Hoarding space around four football grounds that are hosting Carling Cup matches this week is being donated to the cause in Manchester, Bolton, Nottingham and Birmingham.

Carling said it was devoting the space over concerns about the high number of pubs closing their doors since the beginning of the recession.

"As we sponsor the Carling Cup it seemed a perfect opportunity for us to help local pubs at a practical level," said Carling brand manager Martin Coyle.

"Amazingly, 22 per cent of people have never visited their local so there's never been a better time to give it a try," he added.

Recent figures from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply suggested that there might be light at the end of the tunnel for pubs in the UK as the service sector grew at the fastest rate for two years during August.
