One of London's leading pub groups is starting to see trading pick up as the recession draws to an end.

Speaking to the Publican, Clive Watson, chief executive of the Capital Pub Company, explained that its outlets in the centre of the city have been trading "very well" and the outer London pubs that had been doing less well have been revived.

Mr Watson also hinted that the firm could create new pub jobs as the economy begins to pick up.

He said: "We've spent the last 15 to 18 months battening down the hatches. Now it's time to let out a bit of sail."

The firm has already introduced food franchise operations into six of its pubs in order to boost sales, Mr Watson added.

Yesterday, the Coffer Peach Business tracker revealed that October saw like-for-like sales at the UK's biggest pub and restaurant chains increase for the seventh month in a row.
