A new gastro pub is set to open its doors in Red Row, creating a number of bar and restaurant jobs in the north-east.

Entrepreneur Bob Fountain is behind the new venture, which will be based in a 300-year-old property near his home, reports the North-East Journal.

He bought the property four years ago, and has spent more than 24 months revamping the pub.

The Black Horse's menu, devised by head chef Tony O'Neill, will feature food from Mr Fountain's own garden and orchard.

"After the property had been run down for a number of years there was an opportunity to purchase the property, and where better to have a pub than at the end of your garden, and be able to grow and serve your own food!" Mr Fountain told the newspaper.

Earlier this month, the Northern Echo reported that pub chain JD Wetherspoon could create hundreds of pub jobs in the north-east over the coming years, thanks to plans to possibly open around 20 new outlets in the region.
