An ex-fisherman is aiming to boost pub jobs in Lancashire after taking over at a historic pub in Fleetwood.
The Strawberry Gardens had an uncertain future, having been closed a number of times over the past few years, but pub manager Gary Ball, 46, believes he can turn its fortunes around, reports the Blackpool Gazette.
Mr Ball said: "I wanted this pub 18 months ago, but I was in America at the time and missed out. I was regular in here for years, so I know the pub well."
He told the newspaper that instead he was able to purchase the Bridge Inn in Preston which became very successful, but when the Strawberry Gardens came back on the market, he jumped at the opportunity.
The pub is one of a number to reopen in Lancashire recently, such as the Scarisbrick Arms and the Star Inn near Salford, suggesting that the worst of the recession's effects on pubs in the region may be coming to an end.
