People looking for cafe and pub jobs in London are leading the way as the industry recovers from the effects of the recession, according to new research.

The Coffer Peach Business Tracker of trading levels at 15 major leisure firms in the capital found that, after a difficult January, like-for-like sales in February rose by 1.3 per cent compared to the same month last year.

Trevor Watson, director at leisure property consultancy Davis Coffer Lyons, said: "The central London eating and drinking market continues to be very strong. Away from the south-east, the market appears to be lagging behind."

The research also found that total sales, including those at new restaurants, were three per cent higher last month than during February 2009.

Resurgence in the London hospitality trade may have been helped by the development of new establishments, like the Market Coffee House in Spitalfield Market, which opened in February.
