People looking for pub jobs in Cumbria have been given a boost as a troubled establishment is to reopen and target an older drinking demographic, according to a newspaper.

The News and Star reported that the Jovial Sailor in Carlisle was closed when police advised its owners to stop trading after a weekend of trouble in January, but now it is serving once more.

Ian Brown works for Startmore, which is the company that reopened the establishment, and he wants the pub to become the heart of the community.

"In terms of trade, we're keeping the place open and we're reintroducing cask ale, which sends the message out that we're looking for the right sort of people," he told the newspaper.

Cockermouth's Jennings brewery, which supplies many of the pubs in Cumbria, has been reopened recently after the floods of 2009 devastated the operation.
