Liverpool's branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has recognised the best pubs in the former capital of culture, giving out awards to the top-performing establishments, according to one newspaper.
The Liverpool Echo reported on the success of The Dispensary in Renshaw Street and one senior figure within Camra said it won the award because of its friendly atmosphere.
Camra Liverpool branch chairman Geoff Edwards, who presented the award, told the newspaper that the pub has been so successful because it has a place in the heart of the local community.
"This award has made all the hard work over the last six years worthwhile. We are delighted and appreciative that our efforts have achieved this recognition and that our customers enjoy the pub and the real ales," Pauline Keady-Williams and Dave Williams, who run the pub, said.
The Wiltshire Times reported that chef Marc Hicks and his fiancée Louise Cooper have taken ownership of the Inn at Freshford and now plan to revise the establishment's menu and approach to food.
