A pub in Fareham, near Portsmouth, has reopened under a new owner, creating many bar jobs and a live music venue.

The Brass Monkey on West Street has been closed for the past three months, but has now been given a new lease of life by pub manager Charles Smith, The News reports.

Mr Smith has got rid of the establishment's pool table and the pole on the dancefloor in an attempt to attract a different crowd of drinkers.

"We are just looking to take it back to being a proper pub and take it away from being a mini nightclub," he told the Portsmouth-based newspaper.

The Brass Monkey suffered from a lot of trouble in the past, with police frequently being called over incidents relating to drugs, violence and antisocial behaviour.

Earlier this year, a judicial review challenging the development of a new hotel at the Rose Bowl cricket ground in Hampshire was thrown out.

This will have come as good news to those seeking hotel jobs in the area.
