Bristol residents are fighting to get their local Lamplighters pub reopened, which would create more bar jobs in the area.

The pub, located in Shirehampton, closed its doors at the beginning of the year, the Evening Post reports.

Enterprise Inns, which owns the establishment, had promised it would be renovated and reopened under a new owner.

However, back in May the building was put up for sale and locals fear that the 18th century building could be demolished to make way for flats or housing.

A campaign has been created to save the Grade II listed pub, which is being supported by MP Charlotte Leslie.

She told the newspaper that the Lamplighters is "much needed and valued by the local community".

"[It] is also an almighty success story waiting to happen for anyone with the vision and capital to do it," she added.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Marco Pierre White is to open a new eatery in Bristol, which will create a number of restaurant jobs in the area.
