New pub jobs are to be created in Wales when an establishment opens on an island off the coast of Cardiff.

The pub, which is set to be called the Gull and Leek, will open on Flat Holm island, making it the most southerly drinking venue in Wales.

It is to open to customers today (June 24th) and will serve a selection of beers, wines and spirits.

Cardiff Lord Mayor Delme Bowen said: "The Gull and Leek is a great new amenity for both day visitors and overnight guests to enjoy."

"I can't think of anything better than a sunny day on the island drinking an ice-cold drink of your choice," he added.

The new pub, which will be the first on the island since the early 1900s, will replace the former shop in the Victorian barracks.

Earlier this week, the Western Mail reported that new hotel jobs are to be created in Wales at the Porth Teigr scheme in Cardiff Bay.
