A descendant of the 19th century British prime minister William Gladstone has created pub jobs in Wales by reopening a venue in Flintshire.

Charlie Gladstone, who is the great-great grandson the former prime minister, has taken over the reins at The Glynne Arms in Hawarden, along with his wife Caroline, and will reopen it as a food-led establishment next year, Wales Online reported.

The couple are hoping that, when the extensive renovation process is complete and people have been employed in pub jobs at the facility, they can help to boost the area's attraction to food and drink-loving tourists.

Mr Gladstone said that he and his wife are hoping to continue the success they have had with their farm shop in the town by reopening the pub, which closed last year.

"I'm sure Hawarden residents will welcome the reopening of The Glynne. We have the opportunity to build upon the farm shop's success," he told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, a new venue opened by JD Wetherspoon in Caerphilly, Wales, will pay tribute to local sporting hero Malcolm Uphill by being named after the motorcyclist, and it will also create many pub jobs in Wales.
