JD Wetherspoon to open new Gloucestershire pub

JD Wetherspoon has announced that the latest addition to its national empire of venues will be a pub in south Gloucestershire.

The pub chain has been given the green light to open new establishment in Yate, creating a number of pub and bar jobs in the area, the Gazette reported.

Commenting on the move, Nigel Connor, a solicitor for JD Wetherspoon, said the company is food-led, family-friendly and community-based and will make a valuable contribution to the local area.

Concerns had previously been a rise that the opening of a new pub would cause anti-social behaviour, but these claims were put to rest by a panel of local councillors

"We have listened carefully to residents' concerns about vandalism and anti-social behaviour. However, there is no evidence the trouble will substantially increase if the application is granted," said councillor Neil Halsall, who chaired the panel.

More hospitality jobs in Gloucestershire could soon be created as the Gloucestershire Echo reported that the Montpellier Lodge has been earmarked for sale and a number of potential bidders are now lining up offers, with one intending to convert the facility into a restaurant.
