A nervous new landlady is hoping she has what it takes to turn around the fortunes of a world-famous pub in Yorkshire, boosting local tourism and bar staff opportunities in the process.
Denise Mather has reopened The Woolpack in Esholt this week, having given the pub, best known for its appearances in the ITV soap Emmerdale, a major cosmetic overhaul, the Yorkshire Post reports.
Earlier this year, The Woolpack's owner Enterprise Inns announced proposals to spend £300,000 ripping out its interior in a bid to replicate its TV namesake.
But the plans were opposed by local residents who successfully fought to save the pub's original features.
After a much more modest makeover, The Woolpack is back on its feet, with bar staff already serving thirsty visitors from far and wide.
"I am determined, absolutely determined to make this succeed. I live and breathe this pub and the only time I ever relax is when I escape back to my home in the village," Ms Mather told the newspaper.
Although the pub will always be associated with Emmerdale, filming has not taken place in Esholt since 1997, when it moved to the stately grounds of nearby Harewood House.
