Scarborough pub is 'given fresh start'

Bar staff in Scarborough's Hole in the Wall pub will be kept busy in the weeks to come, following a refurbishment and a switch in ownership for the Vernon Road establishment.

The venue was closed for three months amid allegations of irresponsible alcohol promotions and underage drinking but has been given a new start under local hotel manager Anona Martinez, reports the Scarborough Evening News.

Former world champion boxer Paul Ingle will officially open the pub, which intends to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and focus on serving ales.

Ms Martinez said she was looking forward to turning things around, pointing out that the Hole in the Wall was the first pub in Scarborough to be approved by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

"CAMRA have already been down and they’re really happy it’s reopening," she added.

The advocacy group supports consumer rights and the traditional methods of producing ale. It was founded in 1971 and has encouraged a real ale resurgence across the UK.
