It is hoped the new plans will attract more visitors to the popular seaside resort.

Scarborough development gets community backing

Plans for a new hospitality complex in Scarborough have been welcomed by a major community group, according to reports.

The owners of the town's Opera House Casino revealed in December that they are hoping to construct a massive new development in North Street, which will offer facilities such as family restaurants, a hotel and cinema complex.

Now the York Press reports that the scheme has received backing from the Scarborough Civic Society, an organisation which aims to encourage development that would improve the standard of life of those living and working in the town.

Nikolas Shaw, owner of the casino, told the newspaper: "The proposed development is good news for Scarborough and we are pleased that the scheme is attracting solid support."

He argued that bringing the new leisure facilities into the heart of the town centre "will provide a huge economic boost to Scarborough", attract more visitors and help create local jobs.

Major restaurant chains are rumoured to be interested in opening inside the development and will need to recruit staff members for a range of restaurant work roles.
