A new leisure development in Merthyr Tydfil is set to open in late summer, it has been reported.

According to the South Wales Echo, the Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Project is set to incorporate a number of entertainment and dining facilities alongside a modern leisure centre, with new restaurant work roles set to be created as Italian-American theme chain Frankie and Benny's and chicken restaurant Nando's open branches on site.

Councillor Harvey Jones, the leader of Merthyr council, told the newspaper: "To secure these two well-known restaurants is just another step forward in establishing Merthyr Tydfil as a destination venue for the Heads of the Valleys region and surrounding areas."

"It demonstrates clearly that leading names in all business sectors are keen to invest in Merthyr Tydfil and we see this development in particular going from strength to strength."

Hotel chain Travelodge is also set to open a 58-room hotel in the site, giving a boost to those seeking hospitality jobs in the area.

Located close to the Brecon Beacons National Park, Merthyr is a gateway to thousands of tourists and is renowned for its stunning scenery.
