Work is progressing on a new marina in South Derbyshire which when completed is expected to create around 40 full-time and 80 part-time jobs, including restaurant work and pub jobs.

Amongst the many features planned for the development – which will be the largest of its kind in the UK – there will be a "gastro-pub" as well as 18 holiday log cabins, according to the Burton Mail.

Martyn Ford, a council representative, told the newspaper: "I think this will open a world of leisure opportunities in Willington … People are excited that something so big will be on their back doorstep."

Attracting interest from locals and visitors from as far away as Cheshire and Hertfordshire hoping to moor a boat in its 585-berth facilities, the site promises to boost local economy and employment, bringing shops, offices, a picnic area and more.

South Derbyshire district council claims that tourism has become a major industry in the area over the last decade, with latest figures showing around 2,000 people employed in the sector.
