The Duke of Cambridge, an Islington pub, has received three accolades recognising its achievements in maintaining its stead-fast organic food policies and a high level of social responsibility, according to a source.

Pub manager and licensee Geetie Singh runs the establishment as a 100 per cent organic venue, the Publican reports.

Having earlier this month collected a Giant Green Award to recognise efforts in minimising refuse, Ms Singh adds it to a Big Tick Award for Excellence from Business in the Community and the title of Best Organic Restaurant from the Soil Association, both earned in May this year.

The landlady told the newspaper: "When we opened in 1998, we were regarded with suspicion by the trade, but we earned our stripes and have never weakened our resolve to run a business in an ethical and sustainable way."

Figures from the Soil Association show an average of £37 million a week is spent on organic produce in the UK, with London ranking as one of the locations where consumers are most likely to go organic.
