Charles Lockley, head chef at The Boath House Hotel in Auldearn, Inverness, has been named the Scottish Chef of the Year.

He follows in the footsteps of the likes of Nick Nairn and Andrew Fairlie by winning the award, widely recognised as being the ultimate recognition for those working as a chef in Scotland.

Organic food expert Mr Lockley was honoured last night (Sunday May 10th) at a glitzy ceremony at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow.

The Cookery School's Brian Hannan, who organised the event, said the recipient was "humble about his talent", always saying he lets the ingredients do the talking.

He added: "With last year's winner coming from Dumfries & Galloway and this year's winner from the north, there couldn't be a better demonstration of how good a destination Scotland is for top-quality cooking."

Roy Brett of the Dakota in North Queensferry was named as the Hotel Chef of the Year, while Glasgow's Craig Dunn of Michael Caine at Abode scooped the Restaurant Chef of the Year award.

Last month, the Press and Journal reported that a new hotel is to be built on the site of a former cinema in Inverness, creating hospitality jobs in the northern city.
