A Belfast police officer has left his job at the Waldo County Sheriff's Department to pursue his lifelong dream – to work as a restaurant and pub manager.

Mike Dudley has leased the premises of Webba's Roadhouse in the Northern Irish capital and hired a chef from Greenville to establish a new menu he hopes will be popular with customers, reports the Republican Journal.

Commenting upon his plans, he stated: "Belfast has changed so much, and there are so many different niches to appeal to.

"You've got to make the people feel important, because without them, you wouldn't be open."

Mr Dudley has plans for live music and karaoke nights, while a children's menu is being devised to encourage families to visit the restaurant.

Last month, the BBC reported on the opening of the 69-bedroom Ramada Encore hotel in Belfast, which has created 60 hospitality jobs.
