A Scottish restaurant has been named the best seafood eatery in the UK, it has been reported.

The Captain's Galley at Scrabster in Caithness emerged triumphant as the Seafood Restaurant of the Year at the Seafood Awards in London.

Organised by Seafish, the awards – which recognise the top businesses providing restaurant work in the sector - attracted 170 entries over 14 categories.

Experienced fisherman-turned restaurateur, Jim Cowie, the owner of the Captain's Galley, said he was "absolutely thrilled" to receive the award.

He added: "We're proud of the fact that we have a daily changing menu which serves up to 15 different species of fresh local Scottish seafood dishes; we are also very fortunate to have such passionate and expert seafood producers supplying us with quality produce day after day."

Last month, Mark Darby, managing director of Berkeley Scott, told Recruiter that the number of people interested in working as a chef had risen since the airing of ITV1's Hell's Kitchen in April.
