Plans to develop an old Cambridgeshire pub into a high class eatery have been given the go-ahead, meaning restaurant work may be created in the area.

The Horse and Groom on the A505 at Royston will be transformed into a two-storey restaurant, complete with a bar and garden, reports the Royston Weekly News.

It will also feature three en-suite bedrooms for staff and a studio flat for the restaurant manager.

The plans were approved by nine votes to five, despite criticisms that the new building will resemble a spaceship and concerns over traffic levels.

Previously, the pub had been derelict for a number of years.

Hotel jobs could also been created in Cambridge if plans for a new six-storey hotel are given the go-ahead.

Cambridge News reports that Eastern Gate Properties wants to build a 220-bed hotel on the south side of Newmarket Road, but residents' groups are concerned that it will set a precedent for tall buildings.
