Hospitality jobs could be created in Hartlepool if plans for a new 36-bed hotel and restaurant are given the go-ahead by the borough council.
Developers have applied to turn the historic 19th Wesley chapel, which also used to be a nightclub, into a new venue to attract tourists, reports the Hartlepool Mail.
Design plans submitted by Stockton-based company Jomast detail that all the necessary refurbishment work would be carried out internally so as not to detract from the building's Grade II listed exterior.
A spokesperson for Jomast told the newspaper: "Wesley chapel is a landmark site and the provision of additional, high-quality hotel accommodation will be of great benefit to the town.
"It is also intended that the premises will include a modern, bistro-style licensed restaurant and bar."
Should approval be granted, restoration and renovation work could start early next year, added the spokesperson.
An old Italian restaurant in Wolverhampton is also set for a facelift and will reopen as an upmarket bar and grill, reports the Express and Star.
