American chain to create London restaurant jobs

New restaurant jobs could be created in London as an American chain looks to launch its first outlet in the UK.

Chipotle Mexican Grill is to open a new eatery on London's Charing Cross Road next year.

According to Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-chief executive of the company, the chain's commitment to ethical food should go down well in the UK's capital.

He said: "London has become an important food city over the years, especially because of the awareness of and desire for things like locally sourced, seasonal, and artisan ingredients."

Londoners will appreciate the firm's efforts to serve food that "is raised right", Mr Ells added.

The new restaurant is set to open in April 2010.

Recently, Ashley de Safrin, business adviser for the hospitality sector at Business Link in London, told SMEWeb that the capital's restaurants have remained resilient in the face of a tough economic climate.
