A small Shropshire eatery has been named the best UK restaurant across the board by the Harden's UK Restaurant Guide.

The well-renowned guide gets its results from 8,000 reviews by the public and awarded Mr Underhill's the Remy Martin XO Excellence Award for all-round consistency over the year, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The restaurant's managers, husband and wife Chris and Judy Bradley, who have owned Mr Underhill's for over 30 years, specialise in local cheeses and seasonal food, with dishes such as roasted rack of slow cooked shoulder of Mill Farm lamb with garden sorrel and pea puree.

Mrs Bradley told the news provider: "We're astonished and delighted. We're low profile. Chris never does television, he just stays in the kitchen and cooks. And I do front of house."

The accolade was significant for the UK's restaurant industry, as it was awarded to an eatery outside of the capital.

Co-founder of the guide Richard Harden recently told the Times: "London at the moment is stuck in a rut and there is not much innovation."
