A Scottish chef will have a Burns Night supper atop Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for charity as well as set a new world record.
Andrew Fairlie, Scotland's only Michelin two-star chef, will lead a team of Scottish hospitality job holders to the 19,000 ft alfresco dinner.
The group plans to make the trip in January 2011 and hopes to raise money for Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland, which raises funds to support and encourage excellence in the hospitality industry, including the awarding of scholarships and bursaries.
Mr Fairlie became involved in the project following a chance meeting with David Cochrane, chief executive of HIT Scotland.
He told the Scotsman: "He briefly mentioned the idea of a group of supporters having Burns Supper on Mount Kilimanjaro and I thought it sounded like an interesting challenge."
"As long as there is drop of whisky and a toast is recited, it will have the right feel," he added.
