Hunt on for Deli of the Year
05/02/2010 17:28:26
The hunt is on for the UK's best deli as part of Dorset firm Olives Et Al's Purple Love Week which kicks off on February 13th.
Farm shops, corner shops and butchers with deli counters and traditional high street delicatessens will all be competing to be named the first ever Deli Of The Year.
Nominations are currently open and people can put forward their favourite deli or vote for an existing nominee online at the Purple Love website until the end of June.
The contenders will then be whittled down to a shortlist, with judges visiting each finalist before announcing the winner.
Prizes up for grabs include an invitation to an olive growing area in Spain.
Giles Henschel, of Olives Et Al, said that the competition's organisers are looking for places with "deli attitude".
"You know this kind of place immediately when you walk in - it's likely to smell of spices and roast coffee, of cheeses and garlic, of fresh bread, olives, pickles and pies. The search is on!" he added.
Olives Et Al was founded in 1992 and started off selling marinated olives but has now expanded into ranges of speciality oils, dressings, roasted nuts and other snacks.
