Top chef Albert Roux is set to open two new restaurants in remote Scotland, reports the Herald.

In his long career, the accomplished chef has opened a number of restaurants including Le Gavroche in London and the Waterside Inn in Bray, Berkshire – which have both been awarded three Michelin stars.

But his latest ventures are to be in the somewhat different locations of Assynt in Sutherland and the Greywalls Hotel in East Lothian.

Such is Roux's ability that he has trained famous chefs Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White.

He is opening his Sutherland restaurant at the Inver Lodge Hotel above Lochinver, owned by Robin Vestey who will fund the project.

The chef told the newspaper: "I have chosen Inver Lodge Hotel as the location for my latest Chez Roux restaurant as it is one of the most peaceful places in northern Scotland."

Roux's culinary accolades include winning the prestigious Catey Award for Best Restaurant of the Year for Le Gavroche in 1988 and being named Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in 2005.
