A "curry with a conscience night" held by restaurant managers in Swansea will raise money for the Haiti appeal, reports the BBC.

Forty Indian restaurants in the area have said they will donate half of their takings on Wednesday February 17th to the cause.

Swansea restaurant manager Abdul Latif told the news provider: "We thought there was a moral obligation. The people are in desperate need - so whatever we can contribute will support these people in need."

An event held in Cardiff recently raised £25,000 for the disaster appeal and the Muslim community, politicians and community leaders in Swansea met for a special fundraising evening on Friday (February 12th).

The events have been organised in part by Islamic Relief – a member of the Disaster Emergency Committee that brings together 13 humanitarian aid organisations to provide a response to disasters.

Next year Scottish chef Andrew Fairlie will lead a charity challenge to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro to celebrate Burns Night with a world record highest alfresco supper.
