Do men deserve to be in work more than women?

When jobs are scarce do men deserve to be in work more than their female counterparts? That was the question posed by a recent survey, which showed that opinions on this issue were vastly different around the world.

A recent international Pew Research Center poll revealed that countries such as India, Argentina and Russia were mostly in favour of giving men an advantage over female candidates, with 77 per cent of people in Nigeria also backing the view.

The New York Times stated: "The survey found that, despite self-professed egalitarian ideals, many survey respondents agree that men are more deserving of work than women are."

Britain, Spain and America were the countries which opposed the view most strongly, with over 80 per cent of the population in each nation rejecting the patriarchal proposition.

Regardless of gender, people looking for hospitality jobs need to hone their jobs search and application process, according to Chris Morrall, director of Talent Transitions.
