More cafe jobs to be created in Edinburgh?

More cafe jobs could be created in Edinburgh as new plans have been drawn up to keep shops and cafes in the city open later.

The aim of these proposals is to create more of a continental culture in Scotland's capital and reduce the amount of binge drinking that is seen on its streets every night.

A report conducted by SQW Consulting and commissioned by the city council found that companies operating in the night-time employ more than ten per cent of workers and generate £1.5 billion a year of spending, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.

Councillor Tom Buchanan, the city's economic development leader, explained to the newspaper that the majority of people work during the hours that shops and cafes are open.

"I hope this report helps retailers and other businesses to realise there is an opportunity to change the opening hours they have," he added.

Last week, the Scotsman reported that temporary chef jobs could be created in Scotland's capital as the Ivy is set to open a pop-up restaurant during the Edinburgh festival.
