The people of Birmingham are in for a culinary extravaganza this month, as the city hosts its first ever Food Festival event, with catering professionals putting head chef jobs on hold to showcase their talents to the public.

Last week, Olive magazine named Birmingham the UK's top destination for foodies, thanks to its diverse restaurants and food heritage, which includes Typhoo teabags, Bird's custard and HP Sauce, the Express & Star reports.

And now Birmingham Food Fest looks set to cement the city's reputation for turning out delicious meals and creating head chef jobs for those who dream of becoming the next big thing in the restaurant world.

Organised by Marketing Birmingham, the event runs from October 14th to 23rd and showcases a plethora of culturally diverse cuisine.

Aktar Islam, of Lasan Restaurant, said: "The city is rich with an inspiring energy and is rightfully recognised as one of the UK's culinary gems. Birmingham Food Fest is a great opportunity to … showcase the calibre of culinary talent here."

Meanwhile, the upcoming launch of a £24 million Hotel La Tour development in Birmingham looks set to substantially boost hospitality recruitment in the West Midlands.
