The Dorset Echo has reported the Premier Inn development will be decided on by the borough council soon.

If successful, it will be built next to the Globe Inn pub and restaurant.

Supporting letters for the project have praised the plans due to the increased number of visitors the hotel may attract to the town.

There is some controversy surrounding the proposals, the newspaper claims, as some believe the project will draw business away from local tourism such as guest houses and bed and breakfast options.

However, there is an argument from residents the hotel will bring an economical boost to the area, in addition to a range of local jobs.

A 171-bed Premier Inn premises has recently created hospitality jobs in Belfast after opening in the city centre, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

The development, which will be managed by Cygnet Catering, is there to address the lack of kitchen facilities apparent in many of the borough's schools, according to the Dorset Echo.

Capacity for the centre's kitchens, situated at the site of the former Townsend School, is estimated to be 2,000 hot meals per day being issued to 22 schools.

Malcolm Davies, cabinet member for children and families services, told the publication: "This is part of a wider national initiative to improve the quality of school meals across the country."

The newspaper claims the new service will take effect gradually over four months with all borough primaries benefiting from hot meals in "a dining room environment" from late January 2009.

According to the Southern Daily Echo, Costa's owner Medirest, intends to recruit new hospitality workers and may hire more in future to handle busier times of day.

The establishment is expected to be finished at the end of October with a "fresh new look" promised.

Existing employees of the cafe have been reappointed in the catering department of the RHCH, the newspaper has stressed, with no loss of local jobs.

Costa Coffee claims that people are at the "heart of what [they] do", to offer development and career opportunities and to look for individuals who want to contribute to a "dynamic, world-class organisation".

The brand was originally set up in 1971 and offers a range of coffee, hot chocolate, teas, iced beverages and frescato in each of its stores.

Included in the new plans for the Atlantic Hotel are a spa, refurbished rooms, more swimming pools and a conference facility, reports ThisIsCornwall.co.uk.

Also included in the proposals, which may create hotel jobs, are five separate holiday homes in the ten-acre grounds of the building.

Sarah Williams, duty manager at the hotel, told the source: "The Atlantic is seeing huge investment because there's a firm belief in the future of Newquay and that visitors want an upmarket experience."

The aim is to achieve a four-star rating for the destination, with the refurbishment being described by Ms Williams as not "just a lick of paint".

It is thought the new hotel jobs will be created when the work is completed in four years time.

The Cornwall area has recently encouraged plans for a Travelodge hotel in Padstow, with the town mayor Grant Hearn praising it.

In addition to the creation of up to 20 hotel jobs, the cheaper accommodation provided by the site will attract young people to the town and boost the economy in the area, according to The Cornishman.

The hotel group has said it aims to build an establishment with between 45 and 53 bedrooms.

Director of development for Travelodge, Tony O'Brien, told the publication the company is aiming for Bodmin due to its "central location" in the region and the high influx of business and leisure visitors.

"We want to give travellers every reason to visit Cornwall and stay longer. We see increasing the availability of low-cost accommodation in the area as central to achieving this objective," he added.

A recent survey run by the firm showed over 80 per cent of brides and grooms want to hold their stag and hen parties in the UK rather than abroad, further reflecting the need for the venue.

A reopening of Weston pier following the tragic blaze which recently took place destroying many shops and entertainment areas will create new employment in the area, it has been suggested.

The Weston and Somerset Mercury reported a large number of jobs could be found in the reconstruction of the damaged pier and its facilities.

By undertaking the redevelopment of the area, North Somerset council could create several hundred jobs in simply removing the debris which currently occupies the site.

After this has been achieved, plans to open Lifestation - an entertainment centre - would create a range of jobs including those in the catering industry.

In other news, the newspaper also reports large numbers of staff at Weston's Grand Pier have been kept on following the tragedy and as the rebuilding work takes shape more and more will be invited back to work.
