The Dubai-based company, which owns 65 hotels around the world, will be taking over from Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

Alec Clark, chairman of Girvan community council, told the publication: "The fact that the staff will become permanent is a major boost to the local economy and the employment market."

He went on to say the marketing inherent in the cash injection will also raise awareness of the region tourism offerings.

Construction jobs will also be created by the expansion.

According to its official website, the sports and leisure group looks for "dedicated team players" with passion when it comes to hospitality recruitment.

The Dorset Echo has reported the Premier Inn development will be decided on by the borough council soon.

If successful, it will be built next to the Globe Inn pub and restaurant.

Supporting letters for the project have praised the plans due to the increased number of visitors the hotel may attract to the town.

There is some controversy surrounding the proposals, the newspaper claims, as some believe the project will draw business away from local tourism such as guest houses and bed and breakfast options.

However, there is an argument from residents the hotel will bring an economical boost to the area, in addition to a range of local jobs.

A significant employment boost will be given to the area by the project, with local jobs running into the hundreds, says chairman of the company Dermot Dwyer.

In addition, a 200-seater restaurant and bar has also been opened at the site.

According to Big Hospitality, Network Rail is selling off the seven-storey facility, advertising it as an opportunity for hotel developers.

Property agents Fleurets have been enlisted to find a buyer for the building, with principal salesman Paul Harwick telling the website: "Both the location and nature of [it] lends itself ideally to a hotel development and offers are invited for a new lease."

He added Network Rail may also be willing to invest in a prospective development of the 3,485 sq m space, depending on the conditions of an agreement.

In other news, the Yorkshire Post reported at the beginning of September that the service industries have played a role in bolstering the city's success amid the credit crunch.

According to the Express and Star, around 60 hospitality jobs may be created for the new 50-bedrooom Premier Inn and adjoining eatery, which will be situated on the Towers Business park.

Whitbread Group, the organisation responsible for Premier Inns, has submitted a request for planning permission to the Cannock Chase council.

Paul Brown, a spokesman for Premier Inns, told the publication the company hopes to cater for business visitors due to its location on the office precinct.

"There is a lot of demand for what we can offer, particularly for a hotel between Lichfield and Stafford," he said.

According to the Whitbread website, its 35,000 employees serve more than 8.5 million customers every month and for this reason it is 100 per cent "dependent on our people".

The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) has outlined a budgeting "wish-list" it would like for the country's hospitality establishments, including a minimum amount of three euros million (£2.38 million) to go towards marketing.

Its requests aim to give business owners a "more secure footing as hotels and guesthouses seek to trade through rapidly deteriorating market circumstances where access to financial assistance is constricted", according to the Irish Times.

Matthew Ryan, federation president, told the publication the extra liquidity will provide "commercially-sound" organisations with support before normal economic growth returns.

He said the sector wants to be as "competitive as possible".

When the IHF submitted its proposals to the government, it said it wanted to uphold the "significant" tourism success the country has observed in the last 20 years.

On its official website, the IHF claims to represent nearly 1,000 hotels employing more than 57,000 people.
